Antique Jewellery – Ornaments with a Classic Appeal

Antiques are priced based on age. An antique jewellery is expected to be expensive even if its actual worth, in terms of its measurable quality, is insignificant. In fact, a piece of jewelry with not much monetary value when it was made may be worth a fortune if valued today.

Antique Jewellery - Time has Value

An antique Jewellery is valued because of its history; although the materials that it contains are also being considered, its actual age is given the highest regard. Technically, a jewelry, to be considered antique must be more than one hundred years old. The older it gets, the more valuable it becomes. For collecting and valuing purposes, the jewelry must be original, no part of it has been repaired nor altered and it is essential that it is still in a very good condition. Apart from these factors, an antique jewellery will be regarded important if it is perceived rare, uses precious metals or stones and if it is considered beautiful even at this day and age. Nevertheless, more than the beauty and the material value it possess, the real indicator of its significance is the story behind the jewelry. As such, jewelries owned by important people in a society like king, queens, emperors and monarchs are highly valuable and extremely desired by antique collectors.

Antique Necklace - A touch of Elegance

The only antique necklaces that were able to be recovered in good condition were those that are made from precious metals like gold and platinum. However, there is an antique necklace that was able to survive that dates back during the pre-historic time. Albeit is highly-valued because of the story behind the antique necklace, and it is more considered as a historical find rather than a collector’s paragon. The real items that are sought after by antique enthusiasts are those that came from Egypt wherein the necklaces are wide, heavy and made of gold. Victorian jewelries are also great finds; in fact it has the largest collection of antique jewelries. While the big bold design of the Art Deco era is very much desired, the Peruzzi Diamonds in the eighteenth century are pursued and considered priceless. All throughout the history you will find different style of necklaces. Among the popular antique styles are lavalieres, chokers, fringes, lockets and rivieres. You will also find necklaces adorned with pearls and precious stones like diamonds, rubies, jade and other expensive gems.

Vintage Locket - Keeping it Close to your Heart

A vintage locket became an important piece of jewelry partly because of its classic look and mainly because of sentimental reasons. Aside from being a piece of a fine-looking accessory, it also allows the user to put inside the locket a picture of an important person (or people). Women, being sentimental and romantic by nature, become fond of wearing lockets even nowadays. They like the idea of placing the picture of their love ones close to their heart. Vintage lockets are easier to find and a lot inexpensive compared to antique necklaces. Since vintage items are younger compared to antiques, the value put on it is still not yet high.
