German Clothing - General Overview

German clothing is generally similar to the clothing used in Central Asia as German men, and in some cases women, used pants under their tunics to remain warm. This is distinct from the clothing worn in the West Asia and in the Mediterranean, where people only utilized tunics with no other dress underneath. Rather than linen, Germans primarily wear wool because it is colder in the country and many of them also utilize fur-lined pants or fur capes. With regards to the brand, German clothing has created an entity for staying on the perimeter of the fashion scene internationally. Widely known labels like Fendi and Chanel are not Germans but they have notable German designers at the rear of the scenes who are keeping updated to the latest fashion trends.

German Dress - Famous Brands

While much of German designs have relied mostly on other countries, particularly Italy and France since international designers are renowned to have studies in several countries to sharpen their crafts, the country still made its own style and sold it successfully in various parts of the globe. One of the most famous German dress brands is Karl Lagerfeld, the designer who worked for Fendi and began his own company later on. Lagerfeld dress usually highlights outgoing style with strong liking for pure wool coats. Another notable brand is the Hugo Boss established in 1923. At first, this brand concentrated in producing dresses for work but shifted to making suits afterwards. Included to the list of world famous German dress brands are Willy Bogner specializing in sportswear and leisure, and Strenesse featuring dresses for women that go around clothes with floral prints and low necklines and trouser suits.

Traditional German Clothing - Various Types

Many native dress clubs and societies called "Volkstrachtenvereine” backup the revival and preservation of traditional German clothing. This clothing is generally dubbed as "tracht" used in earlier times to identify an individual as belonging to a certain group in terms of trade, origin and legal and social status. Today, the term is utilized to refer to traditional German clothing including the dirndls and lederhosen used on special events and occasions like festivals, weddings and holidays. Worn in the Southern part of Germany, the dirndl is the simplified form of the folk costume and includes an apron, a full skirt and a bodice that is worn with a blouse. The lederhosen, on one hand, are the short leather trousers used by woodsmen and rural peasants and are worn with country shoes, heavy wool stockings and sweaters or shirts of wool or rustic linen.
