For doing the piercing at home, you should have the proper piercing equipment like a safety pin or a sewing needle, which should be cleaned thoroughly by boiling in hot water for about 10 minutes. Wearing your gloves place the needle at a position on the inside of your lip and pierce it halfway through in one go. Even though piercing from inside is difficult, it causes relatively less pain compared to piercing from the outside of the lip. Aim at a suitable angle and pierce the needle through the rest of your skin. You are now ready to wear the lip jewellery.

Lip studs and lip rings are the widely used type of lip piercing jewelry. Lip studs also have spare balls which come in differnt colors, and can thus be coordinated easily with your outfits. Lip rings are best suited for piercings that are located at the edge of the lip.

Even though lip piercing may look seductive and attractive, one should also be aware of the risks associated with the process of piercing. If proper care is not taken then you can be subjected to lip piercing infection by bacteria as well as viruses. To prevent this condition you should take care to brush and clean not only your mouth but also your lip piercing jewelry daily. Rinse your mouth with antibacterial mouth wash. Also abstain from smoking until the piercing is completely healed. If the conditon of infection worsens, then seek immediate medical help.
