Jewish Clothing - Know the Customs and Practices

The way the Jewish sect dress up varies drastically from people belonging to other religion and sects. As per the Jewish tradition and culture, Jewish clothing needs to be modest and reserved. The conservative Jewish women are seen in attire that is neither body hugging nor too bright. The women in Jewish society are encouraged to wear long dresses that cover the body parts well. The women who are married in this sect typically put on covers on their head as a sign of their matrimony. The Jewish men generally do not wear shorts but there is no restriction on them as such. As a matter of fact, Jewish clothing style has been affected largely by the Torah, their Bible. The Jewish are also very particular about styling their hair and beard along with wearing apt dresses. A lot of Jewish men and women prefer wearing black dresses. They also put on accessories like hats and special belts. Fur lined hats and black hats are used by many of them. A majority of the Jewish men also wear skull caps which are called yamaca. This has a deep religious connotation.

Jewish Scarf - Various Styles of Wearing

There are various ways the Jewish women cover their head post marriage. They can use wig hat known as sheital, head scarf or even bandanas. There are various types of Jewish scarf available for the women of the sect. Some women prefer a scarf with strings for the sake of convenience. There are some other Jewish women who prefer wearing the head scarf in crisscross style. The younger women often prefer wearing Jewish scarf in bun style. This gives the wearer a more elegant and graceful look. At times it is not uncommon to see the women wearing two scarves to make a unique and textured covering for the head.

Jewish Dress - Sobriety Rules

Jewish people, typically the orthodox lot wear yarmulke which is made of velvet and similar material. Men’s clothing in Jewish sects can vary based on subsections. Overall, Jewish dress reflects restraint and belief in the almighty above anything else. The shirts are worn by the Jews in such a way that the collar bone and elbows are covered well. The shirts are also required to be buttoned till the top. Jewish people usually wear dark colored stockings. They keep their legs covered even in summer. They take care to ensure that the garments they wear are neither too tight nor loose. They also do not exhibit a high craze for fancy dresses.
