Surf Fashion - Loose Fits and Loud Prints
Relaxed fits are great for loafing around the beach and bright colors along with eye catching prints is a norm for
surf fashion. Clothes bearing surf inspired designs and motifs stand out amongst the waves that rise and fall. Shorts are sought after by both guys and gals and the loose knee length ones, also popular as board shorts or boardies, are a must have. They are lightweight, waterproof with loud prints and can be fastened with velcros or drawstrings. Flip flops or sandals without socks are great for going about the beach. Some well known surf fashion brands are: quicksilver famed for board shorts, O'Neill's for their trademark swimwear and wetsuits, and diverse range of tanks, tees, bikinis, and wetsuits from Billabong. Rip Curl, Volcom are other popular brands for the youth.
Surf Style - Laid Back and Casual
T-shirts with shorts especially broad shorts and boardies teamed with wet suit tops are common
surf styles for guys. While women can couple their boardies with bikini tops, tanks, or other fitted tees. While strolling on the beach, opt for loose Hawaiin or Aloha shirts over shorts. Gals can wear sarongs, bikinis, or sundresses. Messy hair or a bleached mane with a healthy tan is awesome and blonde streaks look amazing on both sexes. Be practical and avoid wearing any jewelry in the midst of the sand filled wind and waters. Gear like hats, sunglasses, self tanners are an essential part of surf style.
Surf Suit - Protection
Made from rubber, lycra or neoprene and shielding body from harsh waves, jagged rocks, and coral; surf suits allow for free movement also prevent cold water from coming in contact with the body. They can have either long or short zipper but the ones without zippers are rather hard to put on. In a warm climate rash guards are worn while wet suits are better for colder regions. Before wearing one, find out if it suits the temperature at the beach and will adequately guard against the terrain. If temperature is considerably warm then opt for a full body variety otherwise wear one with half sleeves and legs. Thickness can vary from 2 to 6 millimeters and fabric should not grate against the skin.
